Celebrating the Socially Connected Worldwide

Ready. Set. Go. Teams were off and running through downtown Reno in search of 20 local businesses to snap a shot and score the grand prize – four Samsung Galaxy Tablets courtesy of Noble Studios.

When Noble first jumped on board to sponsor Reno’s Social Media Day and Instagram scavenger hunt, we really didn’t know what to expect. The easy part was donating the tablets. The best part was engaging with the community and all of the contestants.

It was a hot day and the contestants were sweating bullets as they raced against the clock. It was a mad rush of more than 35 teams of four for 90 minutes straight. I’ve never seen so many people so excited to chow down on grab-and-go snacks and chug an ice cold beverage.

Checking In

At our check-in location, each team was required to take a picture in front of our slick black wall and Noble Studios’ logo, and upload it to Instagram with the hashtag #SMDayReno. Teams also had to sign our giant Facebook timeline in order to complete the task. Noble’s check-in was worth 500 points, making it impossible to win the grand prize without stopping by.

Teams raced to the finishing stop located at Se7en Teahouse. To the judges’ surprise, six teams earned a perfect score, resulting in a random drawing for the grand prize. Lucky me! I was chosen to draw the winning ticket. Two teams ended up walking away with the Samsung Galaxy Tabs. The other first place teams walked away with a handful of other great prizes. The judges didn’t think it was possible to complete all 20 tasks within a 2-hour timeframe. A good lesson learned for next year.

A Worldwide Celebration

Overall, the event was a success. I was interviewed on KOLO 8 News Now, Reno made it on Mashable, and 681 photos were uploaded to Instagram.

We already have our calendars marked for June 30, 2013. Launched nationally in 2010 and declared Nevada Social Media Day in 2012, the worldwide celebration promises to be even bigger next year. It’s a great way to connect wiCeth the community and promote local and national businesses as well as travel destinations.
